About The 1st Battalion 66th Armor Regiment "Iron Knights", is based out of Fort Carson, CO. The 66th Armor Regiment is the oldest armored unit in the United States Army, tracing its lineage to the beginning of the Tank Corps in February 1918 under the command of Col. George S. Patton. It was first activated in the Regular Army as the 66th Infantry Regiment (Light Tanks). Operation SPARTAN SHIELD (OSS) force allows U.S. Army Central (USARCENT) to contribute to the U.S. Central Command mission imperatives of Counter, Protect, Defend and Prepare while simultaneously building partner capacity.
